An Immersive Journey into Vietnam’s Wartime History
The Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) was once the dividing line between North and South Vietnam and witnessed some of the fiercest and most devastating battles of the American War. This full-day tour offers a powerful and informative look into the country’s wartime history, with stops at significant battlefields, memorials, and remnants that tell the stories of resilience and loss.
Itinerary
Depart from your hotel at 8:00 AM, heading north to the ancient town of Quang Tri, where the 81-day battle of 1972 took place. Visit the local museum showcasing photographs, war relics, and artillery.
Continue on Highway 1 to the Hien Luong Bridge over the Ben Hai River, the former border between North and South. Nearby, visit Doc Mieu Firebase, once a key command post for airstrikes along the Ho Chi Minh Trail.
Leave the main highway for a scenic drive through villages and along Cua Tung Beach to the Vinh Moc Tunnels. Dug by locals under heavy bombardment, the tunnels sheltered around 300 people from 1966 to 1971.
Next, visit the Truong Son National Cemetery, resting place of about 15,000 Vietnamese soldiers and civilians—many in unmarked graves. A moving reminder of the war’s human cost.
Head southwest to Khe Sanh Combat Base, site of one of the war’s most important battles. Explore remaining bunkers, a small museum, and military equipment. En route, pass landmarks like the Rockpile, an old U.S. lookout, and Dakrong Bridge, a historic crossing on the Ho Chi Minh Trail.
A simple local-style lunch will be served along the way.
