Itinerary
Start by taking a leisurely boat trip, upstream the fable Perfume River to visit Thien Mu Pagoda. Constructed in 1601, the pagoda with its seven storied tower represent seven reincarnations of Buddha is the unofficial symbol of Hue. From here transfer by car to The Imperial Citadel where the Nguyen Dynasty ruled between
1802 and 1945. The ancient citadel reflects the pomp and the golden age of the Nguyen dynasty as well as the scars of many years of turmoil, both ancient and recent (the Royal Citadel was badly damaged in the latter stages of the war) but retains a sense of grace and majesty even today. After exploring this wonderful monument, continue to the Mausoleum of Tu Duc. Built decades before its occupant’s death, the mausoleum used to be Tu Duc’s retreat venue before becoming the Emperor’s final resting place. Finish the half-day tour, back to the hotel for a leisure lunch.
